Overtraining again

Rule 25: Don’t run when you’re tired and then expose yourself to lots of children (oh dear, DovedaleI realise what I’ve just gone and insinuated there, I’m not even going to bother to explain further). Your lowered immune system won’t protect you from the inevitable snivelling that follows. Ugh. Two hours sleep in a tent on Friday night probably didn’t help either. I’d decided to try out this camping lark at the weekend with a trip to Dovedale. Unfortunately, playing it safe, we chose possibly the biggest camping site in the whole of the UK on a Friday night. I imagine it was a bit like camping in Leicester Square. Next time I’ll read the instructions on ‘wild camping’ a bit more carefully. I managed to walk the whole day regardless, through stunningly picturesque countryside, and the full-on cold only started in the car on the way home.

I’ve now finally given in to the relentless power of word-of-mouth advertising and am trying out echinacea. I’m still deeply suspicious of all these expensive remedies and think I just need to listen to my body a bit more – if I’m half asleep all day long, that’s not the time to be asking my body to go another mile, or do some more intervals on the bike. I now seem to be a split personality, half the time I feel really very fit, the other half I’m moaning and blowing my nose while I shuffle around the house. This is the true Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde split, but which one will ultimately emerge victorious?
